Workforce Skills Assessment PDF Print E-mail

Introduction:

People who operate small- and medium-sized businesses usually know what technical skills employees need to work in the organization but often have trouble determining the non-technical or soft skills required in today’s work environment. The Workforce Skills Assessment Tool can help match employees to the right jobs, keep staff, and help employees move along a career path within their organization by helping to determine which basic skills an employee requires to be successful at work, which employee is best for a leadership position, who might be good at customer service, which employee is detail oriented – and to help employees develop these skills. This assessment can also be used by individuals to help identify and develop the soft skills required to be successful in today’s workforce.

Workforce Skills Assessment

Both individuals and employers can use the Workforce Skills Assessment Tool to identify and develop non-technical soft skills required for work and in an employer’s case help match employees to the right jobs, keep staff, and assist employees to move along a career path within their organization.

The assessment is designed to help assess non-technical or soft skills that are required in today’s workforce. The assessment has two sections; the first section evaluates a variety of soft skill levels required in most occupations; the second section assesses the particular soft skills required for one of the following career paths: Management, Customer Service, and Administration. Individual users will be asked to choose which career path they are interested in at the beginning of the assessment. If a user is uncertain as to the career path they would like to choose or their career path of interest is not listed the option is provided to select “none of the above.”

Based on an individual’s response to the assessment questions, a free summary report will identify improvement areas and provide training suggestions that will assist to strengthen specific soft skills.

Please note, this tool provides general recommendations and is meant to be used in conjunction with other assessment methods. It should not be used as a stand- alone method to determine an individual’s skills or competencies.

Essential Skills

Both individuals and employers can use the Essential Skills Assessment Tool to identify and develop the basic skills required in every workplace and in an employer’s case help match employees to the right jobs, keep staff, and support employees in learning basic workplace skills.

The assessment asks questions about the nine essential workplace skills such as reading, writing, numeracy, thinking, document use, and others that are required in every workplace. Based on your answers to the questions, you will be provided with further training to help you build your skills in these areas. Please note, this tool provides general recommendations and is meant to be used in with other assessment methods. It should not be used as a stand- alone method to determine an individual’s skills or knowledge.
